It has a long history that spans over 2000 years and it has been a popular tourist attraction for centuries. It is also one of the best preserved ancient monuments in the world, which means that it provides an accurate depiction of what life was like during that time period.

The Colosseum was originally known as “the Flavian Amphitheatre” after Emperor Vespasian ordered its construction between 72-80AD to host gladiatorial contests and other public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, and re-enactments of famous battles.

Pantheon

The Pantheon is a temple in Rome, Italy, built as a memorial to all the ancient Roman gods. It was completed in AD 126. The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns. A large bronze dome, one of the largest ever built, covers the building. The Pantheon has been described as “the best preserved of all Roman buildings”. Its distinctive architectural style has made it one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. It is located in the center of Rome, on a triangular block measuring 25 meters from east to west, 50 meters north to south. The monument occupies the trapezoidal site of an earlier temple dedicated to Fortuna Primigenia (the “first-born” Fortune), which was not considered acceptable for religious reasons and consequently was demolished when the Pantheon was built. It stands on the moderately sloping triangular piazza between Trajan’s Forum to the east and the Via dei Fori Imperiali to the west. The Pantheon is a circular temple with a domed ceiling, with a portico front of large granite Corinthian columns. A large bronze dome, one of the largest ever built, rests on a concrete and brick barrel-vault; it makes the building weigh 150 tons.

This fountain was commissioned by Pope Clement XII and designed by Nicola Salvi with sculpture by Giuseppe Pannini. The design was chosen because it was considered appropriate for a church. This fountain is situated on the site of an ancient Roman aqueduct, and its construction was part of a project to bring water from the Acqua Vergine springs into Rome. It is one of the most famous fountains in the world, with over 19 million tourist visits per year. The fountain is still functional, and water pours from four lions heads surrounding a central basin. The water then cascades down on the sides of the angels and spouts from their mouths. This fountain was commissioned by Pope Clement XII and designed by Nicola Salvi with sculpture by Giuseppe Pannini.
